In the quaint medieval village of Vinci, where inspiration thrived in the heart and brush of Leonardo Da Vinci, artisans worked their family crafts in old stone buildings with terracotta tile roofs along the cobblestone streets.

L’arte della pasta was the trade of Signor Vasco Lensi in 1920. He and his family hand made small batches of pasta, leaving them to dry in the sun-drenched open air. They packed the pasta in paper bags, loaded them into the back of the small family truck and rumbled through the hillsides of Vinci and Florence, passing vineyards and open farmland, to make home deliveries of fresh-made pasta.

Through 40 years, the family business blossomed under Mr. Lensi’s guidance as he tutored his son Marzio in the business. Marzio added updated equipment to the growing operation and eventually built a pastificio (pasta kitchen) with full production lines. With a continued commitment to the time-honored trade, he introduced new products into the European market. Some of his early innovations included organic, tri color and special wheat pastas.

Throughout the past several decades, Pasta Lensi has become well known for innovation while staying true to L’arte della pasta.

Pasta Lensi Today

The pasta-making tradition of Pastificio Lensi comes to the U.S. as a brand of genuine distinction. Its makers continue to innovate while remaining true to the authentic, Old World methods, traditions and standards.

The premium Pasta Lensi brand is now available to US pasta-loving consumers and chefs. Our Pasta Lensi Legume Pasta is available in four varieties: Red Lentil, Chickpea, Black Bean, and Yellow Lentil.

Village of Vinci – Il Villaggio di Vinci

Before the birth of Pasta Lensi in Vinci, Italy, the little Tuscan village in the Florence province, with its iconic vineyards and olive groves, had already made history. It was from this small, scenic village that one of Italy’s most famous residents, Leonardo Da Vinci, lived during the Italian Renaissance. Among his many titles, Leonardo was a painter, sculptor, scientist, inventor and musician who loved the art of food and entertaining.

His inspiration went well beyond painting The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. He lent his creative juices to the kitchen and developed the first spit-turner and the first barbecue stove.

Long after Leonardo had left his mark, the village of Vinci birthed other artists and artisans, including Pasta Lensi with its Old World methods of creating the perfect pasta with the best, freshest ingredients. Greatness, in many forms, comes from Vinci!
